DocuGenerate Pricing and What Each Plan Costs per Document for a US Advisory Firm

DocuGenerate charges $19 to $199 a month for 500 to 10,000 documents and bills overage instead of stopping. For an advisory firm sending 10,100 documents a month that is about $2,014 a year, or $526 with portal packages moved to a render API.

DocuGenerate pricing runs from a free plan of 20 documents a month to $199 a month for 10,000 documents (Business), with Plus at $19 for 500 and Premium at $59 for 2,000. Paid plans never stop at the limit: extra documents cost $0.04, $0.03 or $0.02 each and land on the next invoice. Yearly billing is ten months for twelve, arranged through support. A document is one template merged with one data item, so a batch of 300 rows is 300 documents, whatever the page count. We read every figure on docugenerate.com and its help center on 7 October 2026 and priced a US advisory firm's year on it.

The plan cards are easy to read. The parts that decide the bill are the overage rates, the template and seat limits, and one question the pricing page cannot answer for you: whether your documents should come from Word templates at all.

At full use that is $0.038 a document on Plus, $0.0295 on Premium and $0.0199 on Business. Team members exist only on Premium (two included) and Business (five included); each extra member is $9 a month. The free plan generates one document at a time, with no batches.

How DocuGenerate counts a document

The help center defines it plainly: a document is generated from a template and a data item by replacing the merge tags with the data. One data item is one document. In a batch, "each one accounts for a unique document generation", and that holds whether the batch comes back as one combined file or as a ZIP of separate files. Pages do not count, so a 20 page engagement letter and a one page receipt each use one.

That makes DocuGenerate easy to forecast. Count the rows you merge each month and you have your usage. The usage counter resets on the 1st of the month and unused documents do not roll over.

What happens when you go over the limit

Nothing stops on a paid plan. By default there is no hard limit; extra documents are billed at your plan's rate and added to the invoice DocuGenerate sends on the 1st of the next month. You can ask support to set a monthly maximum, after which generation pauses until the next cycle.

Watch the steps between plans, because the overage rate on a small plan is higher than the per document price of the next one:

  • Plus to Premium. Plus plus overage passes Premium's $59 at 1,500 documents a month. At 2,000 documents Plus would cost $79.
  • Premium to Business. Premium plus overage passes Business's $199 at about 6,700 documents. At 8,000 documents Premium would cost $239.
  • Past Business. At 25,000 documents Business plus overage is $499 a month, and at 50,000 it is $999. That is where the Enterprise conversation and its "$0.01 or lower" rate start to matter.

DocuGenerate pricing against a render API at seven volumes

The fair comparison depends on where your documents come from. DocuGenerate fills Word, ODT and text templates and can return DOCX, PDF, PDF/A, HTML or a PNG of the first page. SitePDF renders HTML or a URL in a real browser and returns a PDF with a dated archive copy. If both inputs would work for you, here is what each costs per month, using the cheapest DocuGenerate path at each volume:

Documents a monthDocuGenerate, monthlyDocuGenerate, yearly (per month)SitePDF, monthlySitePDF, yearly (per month)
500$19 (Plus)$15.83$49$24
1,000$39 (Plus plus 500 extra)$35.83$49$24
2,000$59 (Premium)$49.17$49$24
5,000$149 (Premium plus 3,000 extra)$139.17$49$24
10,000$199 (Business)$165.83$49$24
25,000$499 (Business plus 15,000 extra)$465.83$99$49
50,000$999, or an Enterprise quote$965.83$99$49

DocuGenerate's yearly discount covers the base fee only, so the yearly column keeps overage at the monthly rate. Read it honestly: up to about 1,000 documents a month DocuGenerate is the cheaper buy on monthly billing; on yearly billing it stays cheaper at 500 and SitePDF is cheaper from 1,000. From 2,000 up, a render API costs a fraction of a template merge service. That is not because DocuGenerate is overpriced; it is because filling a Word template and rendering a page you already built are different jobs, and the second one is cheaper to run.

A US advisory firm priced on both

Take a bookkeeping and advisory firm with 40 staff that serves small businesses across three states. Each month it sends about 600 engagement letters, proposals and renewal notices, drafted by partners in Word with merge tags for client name, scope and fee. Its client portal also produces about 9,500 monthly financial packages: a cover page, a profit and loss summary, a cash position chart and a short commentary, all already built as HTML pages in the portal.

SetupWhat it coversCost a year
Everything on DocuGenerate, monthly10,100 documents a month on Business, 100 over the limit$2,412
Everything on DocuGenerate, yearlyBusiness at $1,990 plus 1,200 extra documents at $0.02$2,014
SplitLetters on DocuGenerate Plus yearly ($190 plus 1,200 extra at $0.04), packages on the SitePDF Starter API yearly$526

The split saves about $1,490 a year and puts each document where it belongs. The letters stay in Word, where partners and the firm's attorney can edit the wording without a developer, and Plus's five templates are enough for a letter, a proposal and a renewal notice. The packages render from pages the portal already shows clients, so what the client sees on screen is exactly what lands in the PDF, and each one gets a dated archive copy the firm can retrieve when a client or lender asks for last March's package. When the same clients ask what their company would sell for, a separate tool can estimate what a client's business is worth from the numbers in that package.

One caution on the split: Plus allows two documents generated at the same time, so a renewal batch of 300 letters runs two at a time. At DocuGenerate's stated 3 to 6 seconds per PDF that is roughly 8 to 15 minutes, which is fine for a nightly job and slow for a button a partner clicks while waiting.

Where DocuGenerate is the right tool

Pick DocuGenerate, and stay on it, when the people who own the wording do not write code. Word templates with merge tags are the fastest route for legal, HR and sales teams that already live in Word. It also does things a render API does not: DOCX output for documents that will be edited after generation, merges straight from Excel or CSV files, ready made connectors for Zapier, Make, n8n, Bubble, Power Apps and others, and a choice of US, EU, UK or Australian processing regions. Generated documents are stored until you delete them, and the binary response option skips storage if you prefer to keep files yourself.

We found no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA claim on DocuGenerate's site. It publishes a GDPR data processing agreement and a 99.99 percent uptime figure on every plan. If your clients send vendor questionnaires, ask for its security documentation before you build.

Where a render API is the better buy

Move documents to a render API when they already exist as pages in your product: invoices, statements, reports, packing slips, certificates. Rebuilding those layouts as Word templates means maintaining two versions of every design and accepting what a Word to PDF conversion does to charts and web fonts. Rendering the page you already have is one API call. Our document generation API comparison covers the template merge vendors side by side, and PDF API pricing lines up the render APIs at the same volumes. Other template merge services priced on the same basis include Docupilot, Documint and Docmosis.

Questions buyers ask about DocuGenerate pricing

How much does DocuGenerate cost?

DocuGenerate costs $19 a month for 500 documents on Plus, $59 for 2,000 on Premium and $199 for 10,000 on Business, with extra documents at $0.04, $0.03 and $0.02. Yearly plans cost ten months' fees: $190, $590 and $1,990. A free plan gives 20 documents a month. Enterprise is priced on request. Prices read 7 October 2026.

Does DocuGenerate have a free plan?

Yes. The free plan gives 20 documents a month, two templates and one document generated at a time, with no credit card. It does not support batch generation, so it is for testing a template rather than running a workflow. Paid plans start at $19 a month.

Does DocuGenerate offer annual billing?

Yes, but not as a checkout option. You subscribe monthly and ask support to switch to yearly billing, which charges ten months for twelve, paid upfront. The discount applies to the base fee only, not to extra documents or add-ons, and the plan renews automatically unless cancelled 30 days before renewal.

What happens if I go over my DocuGenerate document limit?

On a paid plan, generation continues and each extra document is billed on the next monthly invoice at $0.04 on Plus, $0.03 on Premium or $0.02 on Business. If you want a ceiling, support can set a monthly maximum, after which generation pauses until the 1st of the next month.

Does DocuGenerate charge per page?

No. DocuGenerate charges per document, meaning one template merged with one data item, whatever the page count. A batch counts one document per data item, even when the output is combined into a single file. None of its published prices depends on the output format.

If your documents start life as pages in your own app, paste one into the demo at the top of this page and compare the PDF with what your Word template produces today, then check the volume against our plans.
