Formstack Documents pricing
Formstack Documents Pricing and Formstack Documents Cost per Merge on the Suite Plan
Formstack no longer prints a price for Documents on its own. The only published way to buy it is the Suite, at $250 a month billed yearly for 250 document deliveries. We read the pricing page and the help center on 2 October 2026, worked out what a delivery really costs once the counting rules apply, and priced three US teams against a per render API.

Formstack Documents pricing starts with the Formstack Suite at $250 a month billed yearly ($3,000 a year) or $299 billed monthly, which includes Forms, Documents and Sign, 3 builder users and 250 document deliveries a month. That is $1.00 to $1.20 per delivery if you use the whole allowance. Formstack counts a merge per delivery location, so a document emailed and saved to Google Drive uses two. Past 250, documents come out watermarked unless auto-upgrade adds a merge pack, and the pack price is not published. Standalone Documents plans and the Salesforce edition are sold by quote.
If your documents start as HTML in your own app, SitePDF renders 10,000 a month for $49, or $24 a month billed yearly, with a hosted link and a dated archive copy, where Formstack keeps nothing after delivery. The two fit different buyers: Formstack is a no-code forms, Word template and signature suite; SitePDF is an API for teams with developers.

Formstack Documents cost per delivery at each volume, next to SitePDF
Formstack figures read from formstack.com/pricing and the Formstack help center on 2 October 2026. Formstack publishes one price that includes Documents, the Suite, so every volume above 250 deliveries a month depends on merge packs or an upgrade it does not price in public. SitePDF columns are the Starter API, Growth and Scale tiers from our pricing page; one render is one document, whatever you do with the file.
| Deliveries a month | Formstack Suite, billed yearly | Formstack Suite, billed monthly | Formstack cost per delivery | SitePDF, monthly | SitePDF, billed yearly (per month) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | $250 | $299 | $2.50 to $2.99 | $49 (Starter API) | $24 |
| 250 | $250 | $299 | $1.00 to $1.20 | $49 | $24 |
| 1,000 | $250 plus merge packs (price not published) | $299 plus merge packs | Not published | $49 | $24 |
| 5,000 | Merge packs or a sales quote | Merge packs or a sales quote | Not published | $49 | $24 |
| 25,000 | Enterprise, custom pricing | Enterprise, custom pricing | Quote | $99 (Growth) | $49 |
Bold marks the lower published price. The Formstack figures cover more than documents: the Suite also includes Formstack Forms (100 forms, 5,000 submissions per form) and unlimited e-signatures, so a team that needs all three is buying a bundle, not a renderer. Formstack's help center says purchases of $300 or more a month (or $3,600 a year) are reviewed by a sales representative, so most volume above the base plan is a conversation rather than a checkout.
Formstack plans and what each one includes
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | Builder users | Document deliveries | What else is included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forms | $83 a month | $99 a month | 1 | None, document generation is not included | 25 forms, 1,000 submissions per form, 2 GB |
| Suite (Forms, Documents, Sign) | $250 a month ($3,000 a year) | $299 a month | 3 | 250 a month | 100 forms, 5,000 submissions per form, 10 GB, unlimited e-signatures |
| Salesforce Solutions | Custom pricing | Custom pricing | Quoted | Quoted | Documents for Salesforce, PCI and HIPAA compliant options |
| Enterprise | Custom pricing | Custom pricing | Quoted | Quoted | API access and custom integrations |
The pricing page says "Save 2 months with annual plans", which is exactly what $250 against $299 works out to. Annual subscriptions are not refundable, and the unified billing FAQ says it is not possible to remove user seats or app usage once added, so size up carefully. HIPAA is listed as an add-on on Forms and Suite with no published price; Formstack says it provides a standard BAA for Documents accounts.
Standalone Documents plans still exist. The Suite product page says you can buy the products separately, and the help center lists the current Documents tiers as Starter, Teams and Pro. None of them has a public price any more. Directory sites quote "starting" prices of $24, $92, $99 and $110 a month for Documents alone, and none of those figures appears on formstack.com, so treat them as history until a Formstack quote says otherwise.
How Formstack counts a merge, and why 250 goes faster than it sounds
Formstack defines a merge as "the unique file conversion or delivery of a document or data route", and its help center gives worked examples. The unit is the delivery, not the document, which is the detail that changes the bill.
| What you do | Merges used |
|---|---|
| A form submission creates one document, emailed once | 1 |
| The same document emailed and saved to Google Drive | 2 |
| A data route with 5 templates and no conditional logic, one delivery | 5 |
| Five PDFs combined into one file and emailed | 5 |
| A CSV or Salesforce report with 20 rows mapped to email delivery | 20 |
| Documents for Salesforce: sent for signature, then stored in Salesforce once signed | 2 |
A test merge (test mode, test URL, or ?test=1 on the API) | 0 live merges, output watermarked |
So 250 deliveries can be 125 documents if each one is emailed and filed, or 50 application packets if each packet merges five templates. Counts reset monthly on your subscription date at about 4pm Eastern, and unused merges do not carry over. On the Suite the limit is account wide, shared by every form and template.
What happens when you reach the merge limit
The admin gets an email at 80 percent of the allowance. After 100 percent, Formstack's help center says "any merges that are made after the limit has been reached will come through as watermarked documents until the merge limit has been increased or adjusted." A watermarked offer letter, invoice or consent form is not something you can send, so in practice the limit is a hard stop for customer facing documents.
Accounts created after 14 February 2023 can turn on auto-upgrade, which adds a merge pack subscription the moment you hit the limit. Older accounts are moved up to the next plan instead. The size and price of a merge pack are not published anywhere we could read, and packs are billed as an ongoing subscription until you remove them on the Manage Plan page. Ask for the pack price in writing before you switch auto-upgrade on.
One more cost that does not show on the pricing page: storage. Formstack says "Formstack Documents cannot store or retain data" and that merged data is deleted once the merge completes. The document exists only where you delivered it, so if a customer disputes what they were sent, the copy in your Google Drive or CRM is the only record.
Three US teams priced on Formstack Documents and on a render API
| Team | Monthly output | Merges Formstack counts | Formstack Suite | SitePDF |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nonprofit sending donation receipts and grant acknowledgments from a donor form | 150 documents, emailed once | 150 | $250 a month billed yearly, with forms and signatures it would buy anyway | $49 a month, plus a forms tool it does not have |
| Independent insurance agency turning quote requests into application packets | 600 packets, each emailed to the client and saved to Google Drive | 1,200 | $250 plus merge packs for 950 deliveries, price not published | $49 a month, one render per packet |
| Property management software sending owner statements from its own app | 8,000 statements, emailed by the app | 8,000 | Enterprise or a merge pack quote | $49 a month, or $288 a year |
The nonprofit is Formstack's natural customer and should stay there: it needs a donor form, a receipt template a volunteer can edit in Word, and an occasional signature, and the Suite does all three for one price. The insurance agency is on the edge, because the double delivery quadruples its merge count past the plan and the next price is not public. The software company is the clear mismatch: it already renders the statement as an HTML page in its owner portal, and paying per delivery for a copy of that page buys nothing a render API does not.
Where Formstack Documents is the better buy
Be honest about the strengths, because they are real. Formstack lets a non-developer build templates from Word, PowerPoint, Excel, fillable PDFs or its own builder, and output DOCX, XLSX and PPTX as well as PDF. SitePDF renders HTML to PDF and nothing else, and it does not fill an existing PDF form.
The forms, document and signature steps live in one account with one bill, the Suite includes unlimited e-signatures, and there is a native Salesforce edition for teams that generate from records. Formstack also signs a BAA for HIPAA workloads and lists SOC 2 Type II among the certifications of Intellistack, the name Formstack has traded under since June 2025. If your documents are low volume, edited by operations staff and triggered by forms, the Suite is a sensible price for all of that.
When a per render API costs less than Formstack Documents
The calculation flips when developers own the template and the data already lives in your application. SitePDF counts renders, not delivery locations, at $49 a month for 10,000, $99 for 50,000 and $299 for 250,000, or half that billed yearly. You email or file the PDF however you like without spending more renders, and every render returns a hosted link plus an optional timestamped archive copy kept for 90 days, one year or three years depending on the plan.
If you are comparing other no-code generators at the same time, our Documint pricing breakdown runs the same per document arithmetic for Airtable and HubSpot teams, and Salesforce document generation pricing covers Conga, Nintex and Formstack's Salesforce rivals. For template engines aimed at developers, see the document generation API comparison, and if signing is the part you still need, e-signature API pricing prices it separately.
