jsreport pricing

jsreport Pricing and jsreport Alternative, jsreportonline Credits and Enterprise License Cost per PDF

jsreport is sold two ways: a self-hosted server licensed per instance, and jsreportonline, a hosted service billed in credits where one credit is one second of rendering. We read both price lists on 29 September 2026 and priced them per PDF at five monthly volumes. If you run chrome-pdf reports from jsreport today, or are about to buy the Enterprise license, this is the number your finance team will ask for.

  • PDF and archive in one call

Short answer

jsreportonline costs $29.95 a month for 10,000 credits (Bronze), $99.95 for 100,000 (Silver) and $299.95 for 300,000 (Gold), and one credit is one second spent in the rendering container. Self-hosted jsreport is free for up to 5 stored templates; Enterprise is $395 a year or $895 once per instance, and Enterprise scale is $1,295 a year or $2,495 once for unlimited instances. Because the hosted meter counts seconds, not documents, the same plan buys 10,000 one second PDFs or 3,300 three second ones.

SitePDF prices the document instead: 10,000 renders for $49 a month, 50,000 for $99 and 250,000 for $299, half price on yearly billing, whatever each render takes, with the PDF hosted and archived for 90 days to three years. jsreport is the better buy if you need Excel, Word or PowerPoint output from the same templates, or want a royalty free server you run yourself. The tables below show where each is cheaper.

jsreportonline cost per month at five PDF volumes, next to SitePDF

jsreportonline figures from jsreport.net/buy/online, read 29 September 2026. A chrome-pdf report that renders in one second uses one credit; a report that loads fonts, images and a chart and takes three seconds uses three. For each volume we picked the smallest plan whose credits cover it. SitePDF columns are the Starter API, Growth and Scale tiers from our pricing page, which count renders and ignore render time.

PDFs a month jsreportonline at 1 second per PDF jsreportonline at 3 seconds per PDF SitePDF, monthly SitePDF, billed yearly (per month)
2,000 $29.95 (Bronze, 2,000 credits) $29.95 (Bronze, 6,000 credits) $49 (Starter API) $24
5,000 $29.95 (Bronze, 5,000 credits) $99.95 (Silver, 15,000 credits) $49 $24
10,000 $29.95 (Bronze, 10,000 credits) $99.95 (Silver, 30,000 credits) $49 $24
50,000 $99.95 (Silver, 50,000 credits) $299.95 (Gold, 150,000 credits) $99 (Growth) $49
100,000 $99.95 (Silver, 100,000 credits) $299.95 (Gold, 300,000 credits) $299 (Scale) $149

Bold marks the cheaper option at each volume on monthly billing. Up to 10,000 PDFs a month, jsreportonline Bronze at $29.95 is cheaper than our $49 Starter API tier on monthly billing, as long as reports render in about a second. At three seconds per report, SitePDF is cheaper at 5,000 and 10,000 PDFs, where jsreportonline needs Silver at $99.95. jsreportonline says a yearly subscription "includes 2 months free", which takes Bronze to about $24.96 a month, Silver to $83.29 and Gold to $249.96; it does not print the yearly totals. Billed yearly, our Starter API is $24 a month. At fast renders and 100,000 PDFs a month, jsreportonline Silver at $99.95 beats our $299 Scale tier, and we say so. jsreportonline does not cut you off at the limit: it sends a notice and grants "another 50% credits" so you can upgrade. SitePDF figures include hosting the PDF and archiving the source, which jsreportonline keeps for a day to a month depending on plan.

jsreport licenses for self-hosting, as published

The self-hosted server is the same product for every buyer. What the license changes is how many templates you can store and how many instances you can run.

LicenseSubscriptionOne time purchaseWhat it coversUpdates
Free$0$0A fully featured instance limited to 5 stored report templates, no license keyYes
Enterprise$395 a year$895One jsreport instance with no limits; development instances are freeIncluded on subscription; 6 months on the one time license
Enterprise scale$1,295 a year$2,495One license key for an unlimited number of instances, royalty freeIncluded on subscription; 6 months on the one time license
Support (sold separately)Enterprise support $895 a yearStarter support $395Starter is 2 months and 2 hours; enterprise support answers the next business day, 3 hoursNot a license

Three details change the arithmetic. First, the 5 template limit counts only templates saved in the jsreport store. jsreport's FAQ says a template sent in the request body does not count, so a team that keeps its templates in its own repository and posts them with each call can stay on the free license. Second, passing 5 stored templates starts a one month trial with unlimited templates, and after it you either buy a license or delete templates to get back under the limit. Third, the one time license includes 6 months of updates, and the FAQ prices each further 6 months at $495 for a single instance and $1,395 for scale. Two renewals a year on a one time Enterprise license therefore cost $990, more than two and a half times the $395 subscription. For most teams the subscription is the honest price.

What self-hosting jsreport really costs

The license is the smaller line. chrome-pdf drives headless Chrome through Puppeteer, and Chrome is the part that needs memory, patching and watching. The official Docker image is jsreport/jsreport (version 4.14.2 at the time of reading, for amd64 and arm64) and jsreport requires Node 22.18 or newer. jsreport does not publish minimum CPU or RAM figures, so size the host from your own peak.

A realistic yearly budget for one production instance looks like this. The Enterprise subscription is $395. A server that can run several Chrome pages at once without swapping is typically a 4 GB to 8 GB instance, which on any major US cloud runs from roughly $30 to $80 a month, or $360 to $960 a year, before a second instance for failover. Then there is the engineer: upgrading Chrome and the image, restarting stuck browsers, watching disk if you save reports (on-prem, reports from async calls are persisted forever by default until you configure cleanup). Even two hours a month at a loaded US rate of $100 an hour is $2,400 a year.

Added up, a single self-hosted Enterprise instance lands around $3,000 to $3,800 a year once the time is counted. The same volume on SitePDF's Starter API tier is $288 a year up to 10,000 renders a month, or $588 on Growth up to 50,000. Self-hosting still wins when you need the server inside your own network, when documents cannot leave your infrastructure, or when you already run Chrome at scale for something else. If that is you, the Enterprise scale license at $1,295 a year is good value, because it is royalty free across every instance.

jsreportonline limits that affect production

Price is only half the hosted decision. jsreportonline publishes its limits, and three of them matter for a production workload.

LimitjsreportonlineSitePDF
Render timeout60 seconds on every planSet per request with wait_for; long pages are not billed more
Parallel renders5 parallel requests and 5 requests per second3, 10 or 30 concurrent renders on Starter API, Growth and Scale
ThrottlingRender seconds capped per 5 minute window: 50 s free, 200 s, 600 s and 1,000 s on paid plansNo per window cap; renders queue for a slot
Stored templates and entities20, 100, 300 and 500 by planNone stored; you send HTML or a URL
Saved reports1 day free, 1 week Bronze, 1 month Silver and GoldPDF hosted, source archived 90 days, 1 year or 3 years
ComplianceGDPR data processing agreement; no SOC 2 or uptime SLA foundTimestamped archive of every source page

The throttle deserves a second look. On Bronze, 200 render seconds per 5 minutes is 2,400 seconds an hour. A month end batch of 5,000 invoices at two seconds each needs 10,000 render seconds, so on Bronze it takes a little over four hours no matter how fast your code posts. On Silver, at 600 seconds per window, the same batch takes under 1.5 hours. If your documents go out in bursts (statements, payslips, month end invoices) the window, not the credit total, may decide your plan.

We should be clear about the other side too. SitePDF's Starter API tier runs 3 renders at once, fewer than jsreportonline's 5, and Growth runs 10. Queued renders wait for a slot rather than failing, but a burst team should size on Growth.

Where jsreport is the better choice

  • Office formats from one template set. jsreport ships recipes for xlsx, html-to-xlsx, docx, pptx and docxtemplater next to chrome-pdf. If finance wants the same report as a PDF and an Excel file, jsreport does both and SitePDF does not produce Office files.
  • A report designer. jsreport Studio gives you templates, data samples, scripts and a live preview in one place, with handlebars and jsrender built in and EJS or pug available.
  • Self-hosting with no per document cost. The Enterprise scale license is royalty free on unlimited instances. At millions of documents a month, running your own fleet will beat any per render price, including ours.
  • PDF utilities. The pdf-utils extension merges, encrypts and signs PDFs inside the same pipeline.
  • Fast renders on the hosted plan. As the table shows, one second reports up to 10,000 a month cost less on jsreportonline Bronze ($29.95) than on our monthly Starter API tier ($49), and at 100,000 a month cost less on jsreportonline Silver than on our Scale tier.

Where SitePDF fits better is narrower and specific: a team that already has its documents as HTML pages or templates in its own app, wants a price per document that does not move with page weight, and needs to prove later what a document said. Every SitePDF render can archive the source page with a timestamp, which jsreport does not attempt. For how the per render meter compares across the rest of the market, see our PDF API pricing comparison, and for another time based meter priced per PDF, Browserless pricing per PDF.

Moving a jsreport chrome-pdf template to SitePDF

If your templates are handlebars plus HTML and CSS, the move is mostly mechanical, because chrome-pdf and SitePDF both print HTML in Chromium.

  1. Render the handlebars in your app. Most stacks already have a handlebars or equivalent library. Produce the finished HTML there, or expose a print URL for each document.
  2. Map the chrome-pdf options. Paper format, orientation and margins carry over directly. The chrome-pdf headerTemplate and footerTemplate become header_html and footer_html, and the pageNumber and totalPages classes work the same way.
  3. Replace the wait. Where a template sets waitForJS and flips window.JSREPORT_READY_TO_START after a chart draws, use wait_for with a CSS selector that appears when the chart has drawn.
  4. Run both for a week. Send the same records to both, compare the PDFs, then switch the call.

Reports that output Excel or Word should stay on jsreport. If you are also weighing a self-hosted container that only converts, the Gotenberg alternative page covers what that path costs to run, and our document generation API guide sorts template merge services from HTML renderers.

The same invoice rendered two ways: a jsreport chrome-pdf call with the template in the request body, and the SitePDF call with the HTML your app already rendered.
// jsreport (self-hosted or jsreportonline)
await fetch('https://your-jsreport-host/api/report', {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    template: { content: invoiceHandlebars, engine: 'handlebars', recipe: 'chrome-pdf' },
    data: invoice,
  }),
});

// SitePDF: send the finished HTML, get a hosted PDF plus an archive record
const res = await fetch('https://api.sitepdf.com/v1/render', {
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
    'Authorization': 'Bearer ' + process.env.SITEPDF_KEY,
    'Content-Type': 'application/json',
  },
  body: JSON.stringify({
    html: renderInvoice(invoice),
    format: 'Letter',
    footer_html: '<div style="font-size:9px">Page <span class="pageNumber"></span></div>',
    archive: true,
  }),
});
const { pdf_url, archive } = await res.json();

Questions about this job

How much does jsreport cost?
Self-hosted jsreport is free for up to 5 stored templates. Enterprise costs $395 a year or $895 once for one instance, and Enterprise scale costs $1,295 a year or $2,495 once for unlimited instances. The hosted jsreportonline service costs $29.95, $99.95 or $299.95 a month for 10,000, 100,000 or 300,000 credits.
What is a jsreportonline credit?
One credit is one second spent in the rendering container. A PDF that renders in half a second costs far less than one that loads remote fonts, images and charts for four seconds, so the number of PDFs a plan buys depends on how heavy your templates are. Measure a typical render before you pick a plan.
Is jsreport free for commercial use?
Yes, within the free license limit of 5 stored report templates. jsreport's FAQ says templates sent in the request body do not count toward that limit. Past 5 stored templates you get a one month trial with unlimited templates, then you need an Enterprise license or must delete templates to return under the limit.
What happens when you run out of jsreportonline credits?
The service is not interrupted. jsreportonline sends a notification and grants another 50 percent of your credits so you have time to upgrade the plan or reduce traffic. Keep an eye on the per five minute throttle as well, since it limits bursts even when credits remain.
Does the jsreport Enterprise license include updates?
The yearly subscription includes updates for as long as you pay. The one time license includes 6 months of updates, and jsreport's FAQ prices each additional 6 months at $495 for the single instance license and $1,395 for the scale license.
What is the best jsreport alternative for PDF only?
If you only need PDFs from HTML and do not want to run Chrome, a hosted HTML to PDF API priced per document is the simplest swap. SitePDF renders 10,000 PDFs for $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, whatever each render takes, and archives the source page. If you need Excel or Word output, stay on jsreport.
Does jsreport keep generated reports?
Only if you ask it to. Saving a report is opt in per request on self-hosted jsreport, and reports from asynchronous calls are persisted until you configure cleanup. On jsreportonline, saved reports are kept for one day on the free plan, one week on Bronze and one month on Silver and Gold.
